As regards this topic. well as I recall I was a bit surprised at the speed of reaction to Becka initial posts, and even more surprised at the speed of the insults flying. Clearly something unusual was going and I stood well out of it.

Really ? I think it's kinda obvious. She started posting about her uber-difficult group and how well they had worked due to what she'd done.

What would any teacher ask other than "what did you do then ?". Even those of years with ten or more years in EBD are open to new ideas.

    Lilypop:
The impression I got was of apes fighting for dominance because of a new kid in town. Very childish.

Actually only one other group of people has been reacted to so negatively ; that is those who post pretending to be teachers but are actually selling something "I've just found this fantastic new resource".

    Lilypop:
Prehaps wha is lacking in these forums is an 'Ignore the poster' button

Well, if you want to ignore someone .... just ignore them. The problem with that sort of button is you might ignore someone on first post who mucks it up a bit, but then goes on to contribute.

Also people respond differently depending on context.  For example, in political discussions I'm quite bolshie, but in discussions on (say) pay and employment I'm much more gentle because people are asking for support.

But if you start a thread along the lines of "David Cameron/Ed Milliband is a git" then presumably you want an argument ......

Take your point about context and ignore button. I only read threads that appear educational, I give the rest a wide berth.

However where educational threads are concerned I would like an ignore button. I would ofc only use the button where someone used insults in response, to me anyone who does this is not worth reading. It's a time management thing, it's just a necessary efficiency to learning for the little time I have available. Indeed I consider this a far better likelihood indicator of the quality of someone's arguments - and as such what I have to gain from reading them if not necessarily understanding them - than spelling etc. Wink

I have been lurking here for some time, and I have observed the existence of a clique. All the usual suspects are on this thread, as they normally hunt in a pack. But I believe that those who have waged this disgraceful attack have been defeated by a brilliant Weebecka!

Lilypop, I have no idea what " stocking every post you wrote " means but I can assure you I didn't ! Difficult to do something when you don't even know what it means. As I recall ( and it's a long time ago I think) I disagreed with you on a number of points but on one particular thread I recall you gave someone some very bad advice which could've led to them losing their job because you don't understand employment law in schools. I also recall vaguely that Middlemarch contributed in kind and a few other experiencesd heads too. If you're going to give out advice which could damage someone's career, you can expect those who know the law to step up and correct you.

you posted on that thread without alerting the op to the fact that you are not a teacher and not an expert in education or employment law, you should've at least informed them of your position before offering such advice IMO

curlygirly - you missed the opportunity to use [sic] for its proper purpose after the word "stocking".

I always appreciate it when a troll outs themselves at the earliest opportunity as MrFoxy has done.  This is a poster you can safely ignore, MathsMA.
