That was all very interesting.  Thank you very much.

Now are you lot going to stop being paranoid and just send someone along to conference with me?

Or is being super-paranoid part of the fun?

Sorry, I'll be on the beach with my family. I have to say on my " to do" list it would come somewhere below " clear out the shed, tidy the sock drawer" and " help neighbours to unblock their toilets" frankly. But thanks for the invite all the same.

'course you could always send one of you to meet me, since it's super easy to find me.  I do scotland too!Smile  Even had radio gaga with bagpipes this morning (that was as weird as it sounds, but Snow Patrol with bagpipes is good!).

Don't worry - I'm not emotionally needy or anything like that - mainly due to not being in the front line at the minute.  If you're getting to know me even just a little bit (don't worry I'm not holding my breath on that one) you may realise that when I say I miss it I'm not taking the proverbial.

So - since you know each other so well, just natter among yourselves and decide upon an envoy (in between making babies of course)......

No problem curly.  My pleasure.  Very sorry you can't make it.  Enjoy your holiday - well deserved.

sheesh...you really can't bring yourself to acknowledge that you have TES entirely wrong.

We can only see what you offer.  We all get to know one another by what - and how - we write.  That is all we have to go on yet a lot of friendships have been formed on here.

As someone who has thoroughly enjoyed meeting quite a few posters and who'd very much like to meet several more I'm happy to report you're not on the list.  Like I said, we've only what people put in writing - and how they do so - to judge their character and decide whether they are someone we'd like to meet.

I read the first seven pages of this thread and gave up in bewildered despair.

What conference are you all talking about?

What's this stuff about people needing help using forums? Pardon?

Someone - heaven knows who - used the word acronym incorrectly.  That really irritated me.

    Just so that you know.

Thank you DM. I understand now. (Slow on the uptake, me)

Would you like there to be a friendly maths staffroom that you can drop into at 24 hours a day? Somewhere where you can get advice, explore you own ideas, help others, sound off or just eavesdrop on interesting conversations? In this session Rebecca Hanson will take you on a tour of the available chat sites and discuss the practicalities and benefits of using them. She might tell a few stories of the things which have happened on them too.

Makes me feel a bit uncomfortable to say the least.

Sounds like this Rebecca Hanson woman has got it made.

    Your self-obsession is breathtaking.

Surpassed only by the weebecka obsession of some of YOU!

INKY when I came onto TES I forgot to mention I was doing this (ATM) conference.  Sigh.  I've been asked to do conferences and write on maths forums (which I did mention) because I facilitate on NCETM and have structured international discussion forums too.

My opinion of TES was that it was a great place to come for fast simple answers but not such a great place for deep discussions (deep stuff eh?) because people are anonymous and identity matters in deep online discussions.  However I've come here myself to explore it and look for contradictions to these initial impressions.  + I'm here because I'm annoyed with Gove and want to sound off about that.

Hundreds of posts have been about this idea that I came here to create tabloid style stories, which is simply untrue.  I think now I've done all I can to stop it so it's time to leave them to their obsessions.

DM and has been systematically agitating things, distorting what I said and advising me badly and I'm interested to see why.  There are very few people I've annoyed in the maths teaching community, but the people who wrote the Excellence in Maths Leadership Materials for the NCETM.  (EiML) are an obvious exception and there seem to have been issues emanating from there since I pointed out that the materials were inadequate and needed to be rewritten (which they were and they were).   The materials were developed by Mark McCourt, who DM knows so I'm probing for insights.
