    Vince_Ulam:

    Hi everyone.

Hi Vince.   Any relation to Stanislaw?

[quote user=Vince_Ulam"Just a short note in defence of the site of the National Council for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics which, while I acknowledge is not being attacked, I feel could indirectly lose lustre by association with this issue.

    National Centre not National Council.

    Vince_Ulam:

I do not speak for the NCETM ...

Probably just as well as you don't know what it stands for.

    Vince_Ulam:

I would like to say explicitly to casual TES readers and regulars alike that this issue is not representative of the material and people to be found at the NCETM.

We promise not to tar you with that brush.   Thanks for dropping by!

    Hello to Vince.

I use both forums. Although NCETM can be slow, the facility to receive emails when a new post is added is very useful. As you say there have been some good discussions there.

ahem!  I'm not sure it is entirely accurate to say that you wrote that microsite, and rather unfair to those who did.  Please don't take credit away from people.

Mark one of the worst things about being banned was not getting the opportunity to reply to this message from Saturday afternoon.!

Of course I would be delighted to give credit to those who helped me. Are you sure that's okay? - these things have always been so unclear. I've often linked to things I've written for the NCETM before and that's clearly been okay. But can I name others who helped? I suspect I would need to ask them which would be difficult as I don't know who the editors were unless you can tell me otherwise given your previous status.

In researching pedagogical strategies appropriate for TAs I was delighted that others had a discussion on a conference call with me. And of course there were those who edited and gave feedback on the site. Another associate wrote the case studies to which this site links.

But Mark why on earth are you suggesting that I did not write the Microsite? Apart from the case studies, as far as I can tell, it is as I wrote it with the help of some editorial comments. Blooming hard work it was too. Has anyone suggested otherwise to you? I'd be interested to hear what on earth you've been told if so.

Given the sensitivity of issues at the minute I have no wish to draw further attention to the work I have done for the NCETM. However it is entirely inappropriate that someone who was a director for them at the time I did this work is misrepresenting what I did.

But you made the links in the first place Rebecca.

Also, as a member, I can't understand why ATM are condoning Rebecca's behaviour. Surely somebody from the ATM must be aware of how she's been behaving on here, and in some part, in their name.

I'm sure they would have withdrawn their invitation for her to speak if they knew about any of this.   They are presumably blissful in their ignorance of the whole kerfuffle.   I decided not to renew my membership in January in silent protest (the most pointless of all forms of protest).

I note, however, that NCETM's moderation seems to be rather more efficient than TES's - they've pulled her diatribe against TES posters which entertained me this morning before I left for work.

I've always thought of the ATM conference as being for teachers who are much further on in their careers than a beginner like me! But if this is the quality of the speakers' material than perhaps I need to think again.

It'd be good to hear from people who have been to the ATM conference (and I hope my suspicions are wrong!).
