Totally agree with OP. I'd also like to see the moderators simply cut any inflammatory posts, insults or pointless arguments. There's a place for that - opinion. Any other pointless banter in xbar.

No rudeness or abuse in xbar though! Smile

It feels much more like "Opinion" nowadays, and much less like "Maths"

This pertains to a couple of individuals at most, surely

I think that's true ResourceFinder but it's amazing what an impact a small number of people can have.

I agree that a few jokes, or funny pictures, make a thread more lively. However, it is most frustrating when a thread is hijacked to be about something else completely, so that people stop discussing the original topic. I have started a couple of threads asking for advice which have degenerated into name calling. It is right that a thread develops as more ideas are included, but not when it completely loses touch with the original post.

Less and less day by day.

And in opinion too it seems......

And it's not because people said 'what can we do to stop threads being deleted?'

It's through recognition that the deletions were not our fault.

I have spent too much of my life taking the blame for things I could do nothing about.

    Morning bombayloaf.

Either don't use my name or get it right.

I have found this forum invaluable through my teaching career so far and you are making it a very unpleasant and far less useful place.  Feel free to quote that at the ATM conference.

I do understand that this forum has been a vital place for the career progression of many meatsapphire,

but we don't all want to be inspectors.

in fact we could abbreviate that.....

we don't all want to be inspectors.

I won't be talking about this at ATM conference.  That is for positive things only, like this,

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDeRYmB4t6Q

Now why on earth was that deleted?

Anyway, when I'm suddenly banned (as is surely inevitable given the above post)....

If poeple start being abusive again, point them out for what they are - self-interested abusers who want to get intelligent posters off the forum.

Do not think "what should I have done differently here?" as that is just playing into their hands.

    lol weebecka,

who will still be out there in cyberspace discussing maths education.

    xxxxxx
