My point is, DM, that at first it was possible to ignore certain threads or posters but it's not fair to other users when unhelpful and irrelevant posts are made on many threads.

    DM:
bgy1mm, sabbir and becka may collectively be as mad as the contents of my broom cupboard but they have as much right as anyone else to visit and post here.

Absolutely.  I agree entirely.  I have never at any stage suggested a poster should leave the forum and wouldn't wish that to happen.

But the Forum Netiquette section suggests that deliberately hijacking threads to change their focus entirely is wrong.  I was pointing this out.  It is encouraging to know that others whose posts I value (such as brookes) agree.

Is there a difference between aggressive and passionate posting. My posts are often short, forceful yet are made with the idea of understanding education and maths.

Im not sure people can dictate who posts and their style of posting but if their intentions are good I feel they just make up part of society.

Someone who goes out of their way to create 'issues' would be classed (IMO) as someone not suited to a community but the personalities of people, their choice of getting a message over should not be determined by others UNLESS IT IS AGAINST THE RULES.

DM posts lots of pictures, posts lots of 'you should google that' yet at the same time provides many many links, info and insights that I have used in my career, ergo his particpation is productive.

20-30 posts a day of coded garbage, often in quick succession with little info moving things on is not ideal to me.

    Users pays their money....

I appreciate those who have been round for years but Im not sure whether that allows them an additional right to determine who or how posts are made in an open community (unless they break the rules, which I support)

I don't think anyone is suggesting people shouldn't be posting here. For instance, I've never had a problem with the non-teachers voicing their opinion, no matter how much I question the basis of their statements.

Betamale - you are one of very many posters whose contributions I enjoy (I know DM won't care one way or the other, but I value his stuff too!).  I don't always agree with everything you post, but then I probably disagree with things I posted a year ago.  That is all part of life.

There are posters, though, who are hijacking threads to turn them into something else, something that may get removed.  The 1920s exam paper thread had some useful information in it.  It got deleted.  Good stuff lost.  Shame.

My suggestion is just that if people want to have a good old argument, or trade YouTube links then they do so in a new thread devoted to that, rather than risking getting an existing thread deleted.

    Surprise

What are you trying to say?   I'm very sensitive, me.

I have to admit even I have tired of becka's links.   I stopped clicking on them days ago.

Just had an email from tes. I've never reported a poster before ( apart from a very obvious and horrible troll) but she overstepped the mark one time too many today and I reported her. I also don't think I was the only person who did so.
